3 is The Magic Number

By Phil on 2014.04.05 In Fjällräven Polar

As those great literary geniuses (ok, American hip hop artists) Posdnous, Trugoy the Dove and P.A. Mase once wrote, 3 is the Magic Number. They were certainly right about 3 being the Magic Number after today.

After hearing some stories about how bland some of the dried food meals are that we will be eating, a few of us decided to spice them up a little. So I’m taking along a jar of Everyday Seasoning with built in grinder and some homemade Worcester Sauce, or Worcestershire Sauce to give it’s full name, for my fellow tent mate Phil and myself. I have already been asked by my Danish friend Peter (a.k.a. Doc Crowe) to explain the Worcester/Worcestershire pronunciation when we meet up. Greg from the US has made up his own spicy chilli concoction. And judging by the photo he sent the group it looks like a spicy bad boy.

While out shopping for my luxury items, I got a picture message of the front page of the Sunderland Echo from Ian, which had me as the main feature photo and full story on page 3. I was shocked and didn’t believe him as I wasn’t aware of any such story. It seems the Sunderland Echo had got hold of the excellent write up from Dan White from Sunderland University and did their version of it. Which was great, though glad it wasn’t in the Sun newspaper seeing as my story was on page 3! Luckily I had clothes on in the photos in main story anyway.

At the start of today I had managed to raise £1700 in donations for Cancer Research UK. I returned home to see that the amount of donations made today was exactly £300 and takes me to £2000 in total donations. Which is a fantastic and would like to thank all of you who have donated and helping me reach that amount. I really do appreciate it. £300 in just a few hours is unbelievable!

Well tonight is my last night before I start my journey to Sweden, where I will spend a couple of days and meet my fellow participants before heading North of the Arctic Circle to start the 300km long winter adventure across the Arctic tundra, where we will spend 3 nights in the sub-arctic wilderness as we travel from Signaldalen to Jukkasjärvi on our amazing once in a lifetime adventure.

This is for those of you who remember that great song by Posdnous, Trugoy the Dove and P.A. Mase:

I hope to keep my blog updated as often as technically possible during the adventure.

Thanks again for all your messages of support and donations to Cancer Research UK. The support has been coming in from all ages. Here is photo of 7 year old Charlie, the son of my good mate Anthony Harrison from work, as Anthony grooms him for Fjällräven Polar 2025 by showing him video on YouTube.

Welcome to my blog about hiking, trekking, Fjällräven Polar 2014, in fact anything where you require boots and the outdoors.

My name is Phil, and following my outdoor epiphany which started in the summer of 2012 I’m now hooked on everything outdoors. So far my biggest treks have included the 250km Cathar Way, the 170km Tour du Mont Blanc and best of all, winning 1st place to take part in the Fjällräven Polar in April 2014.

I plan to use this blog to write about all my adventures, which will include my personal goal of becoming a Munroist (completing all 282 Scottish Munro mountains), summer treks, weekends in the Lakes and many more.

I like to try and make my blog posts humorous so I hope you enjoy reading and that I can put a smile on people’s faces while showing you some amazing places.
